Elantropy is the multidisciplinary art practice of Elan hAnlon, working across visual, material, spatial and time-based forms. Born in Cill Dara (Kildare), Ireland, Elan lives and works on Whadjuk Noongar Country in Boorloo (Perth), Australia.

Informed by philosophy, systems thinking and speculative inquiry, her practice attends to ecological, material and perceptual relationships, tracing the entanglements of place, culture, identity and more-than-human life within the social, technological and ecological systems that shape contemporary experience.

Her practice considers how place, cultural memory and environment shape perception, embodied experience and ways of knowing. Works emerge through observation, experimentation and material encounter. Pigment settles unpredictably, fibres register gesture and tension, forms respond to pressure and transformation, while light shifts, refracts and shadow, sound and projection move through space and time.

The work attends to shifting connections between humans, more-than-human worlds, environments, materials, systems and technologies. Materials are not simply passive carriers of ideas; they become active participants in the formation of meaning.

Art becomes a form of inquiry: a thinking in action that moves beyond translating predetermined ideas into form. These encounters become ways of thinking through the world. It is an open-ended process in which perception and meaning emerge through attention, experimentation and discovery.

Her work has been exhibited in Australia and is held in private collections, with projects spanning galleries, spatial and site-responsive environments. Her practice has been recognised through commissions, publications and awards. Alongside her artistic practice, she contributes to the arts through advisory, teaching and volunteer roles.
