OutsideInDownSideUp 2024
OutsideInDownSideUp is an installation shaped by inheritance and grief. After my father’s death, my family bequeathed me a mirror he used to look at his body altered by cancer. Not given by him, it felt less like a gift. This gesture unsettled me, prompting questions about why it was chosen. The installation questions how grief, objects, value, and emotional weight are assigned and carried.
The mirror and surrounding space act as active participants within an emotional-material system, responding to and reflecting audiences’ presence and interpretation, revealing how objects, memory, and relational experience circulate and shape one another.
