Choose 2022
Choose unfolds as a speculative inquiry into reproduction within the entanglements of place, culture, identity, and being alongside more-than-human others. The work moves between remembrance and possibility, holding miscarriage, stillbirth, and newborn loss alongside voluntary non-parenthood.
A fragile glass baby operates as a material proposition, embodying life and absence, vulnerability and endurance. It holds the tension between unborn loss and imagined unborn agency, unsettling, prescribed narratives of motherhood and the cultural silence surrounding grief.
Situated within questions of ecological, social, and reproductive interdependence, Choose does not argue a position but attends to relational responsibility, exploring how individual bodies, private decisions and social-ecological systems are interconnected.
